Using Named Sections
There are two ways of searching within identified portions of documents, or within
structured meta data fields:
- You can use the "IN"
positional operator to specify that the search term must occur in a paragraph
which is labelled in a particular way, for example, "SMITH IN AUTHOR". This works
even though the documents may not necessarily be marked up in any way, or that you
haven't defined "Author" anywhere. Perceptive Search just looks for paragraphs that begin with
the label "Author".
- Alternatively, you may create your
own named sections, each of which may potentially span many paragraphs. If you
have defined your own named sections, then Perceptive Search is able to display them in a list.
You can search within Named Sections in your documents via the
Menu-Assisted or Command-Based query
windows.
In a Menu-Assisted Query:
- Select Query > Menu-Assisted from the menu, or press [CTRL-M] on
your keyboard. The Menu-Assisted Query window appears.
- Type in your first query word or phrase, then click the IN the paragraph LABELLED...
button.
- Select the section name you wish to search in from the pop-up menu. If no
menu pops up, you will need to set this option in the
Perceptive Search Query Options, or type the exact name of the section.
- Click OK, then run your search. Your query word or phrase will be looked
for only within the pre-set section.
In a Command-Based Query:
- Select Query > Command-Based from the menu, or press [CTRL-K] on
your keyboard. The Command-Based Query window opens.
- Type in your first query word or phrase, then type IN as you would any positional operator, then type
the exact name of the section.
- Click OK, then run your search. Your query word or phrase will be looked
for only within the pre-set section. If the name of the section following IN does
not correspond to a Named Section, Perceptive Search will assume a labelled paragraph (as in
LABEL) and proceed normally.
